File Commander
Review date:July 3, 2003
Version reviewed:1.0 (see Update below)
NOTE: the review only pertains to the version/date mentioned above. Subsequent versions could be quite different from the reviewed version.
Review:

File Commander is a tool which creates commands which can copy, move or delete batches of files.

It features an easy-to-use command creation Wizard.

This is an interesting utility. It can create commands to semi-automate file management functions and you could even set up these commands so that they run automatically whenever Windows loads by using the Startup folder.

The command files use a native WINCMD file extension and are quite small. There are many options available and the File Commander scripting language is very powerful.

We found that the program's Wizard hung for quite some time before allowing us to move between sections of the Wizard and we don't know if this was a problem with our setup (not unusual as we do load some weird programs) or if it was common for anyone using Windows XP.

While probably not for the novice computer user, File Commander is a powerful tool if used correctly.

Note: this program requires the Microsoft Windows Installer, and is not suitable for Windows 95 machines.

Update:July 23, 2003

File Commander has been updated to version 1.1.

The author advises that changes in this version include: added a new "ignore errors" option; and smoothed out the background processing to improve responsiveness.
