Point-N-Click
Review date:October 5, 2001
Version reviewed:2 (see Update below)
NOTE: the review only pertains to the version/date mentioned above. Subsequent versions could be quite different from the reviewed version.
Review:

Point-N-Click is an on-screen virtual mouse for anyone with a disability (arthritis, broken hand, etc) who finds it difficult or impossible to click a mouse, but can otherwise move a pointing device like a mouse or trackball.

Its features include Alt, Shift & Control button functions and a wide variety of regular mouse functions.

Move the mouse pointer over one of the Point-N-Click buttons (most functions are included) and the button for that function goes yellow to indicate that the pointer is positioned properly and then it turns red. Once it turns red you just move the pointer over the section of the screen that you want that function executed (say, double-clicked) and that function will happen automatically after a very brief delay.

Functions include left and right clicking, double left and right clicking, left and right clicking & dragging (holding down the nominated mouse button while dragging, say, a titlebar, etc). It also includes some very handy functions, like right and then left clicking (specially for context menus), repeating a mouse click every time the mouse pointer is moved and then stopped, continual clicking, etc.

While Point-N-Click sounds rather cumbersome (specially for people with full mobility), for anyone with severe arthritis which makes clicking on a mouse button painful this is a most valuable tool. You can control the delays within the program so that someone who has trouble aligning a mouse pointer has sufficient time to carry out the task.

Even if you are not disabled this is an excellent tool to show you what some other users must go through to use their computers.

If you are disabled and can't easily click a mouse key, however temporary, then Point-N-Click is a must have.

Update: October 25, 2001

Point-N-Click has been updated to version 2.1.

The author advises that changes in this version include: a break timer has been added for people with Repetitive Stress Injuries; and, to make it work with full screen programs where the program form is not visible, Remote AutoMouse areas have been added which are target areas the user defines on the desktop that will select clicks that can be used in full screen programs.
