SyncBack
Review date:January 30, 2004
Version reviewed:2.2.1 (see Updates below)
NOTE: the review only pertains to the version/date mentioned above. Subsequent versions could be quite different from the reviewed version.
Review:

SyncBack is a tool which can backup or synchronize files between drives, directories, or networks.

It features backup simulation to ensure files are not accidentally over-written, integrates with Windows Scheduler, filter based on file types (include & exclude), exclude specific files, select which sub-directories to backup, verify files are copied correctly (using MD5), ignore small date & time differences, eject source or backup media, and more.

This program is terrific. It makes backups a snip and synchronization between folders and/or drives simple.

Select the source and the destination, ensure that the filters, etc are set as you want them (the default will suit most users) and, if you are worried about a file being accidentally over-written, run the simulation. However, once you have used it once you probably won't even bother with the simulation – you will go right ahead and make the backup or synchronization.

There are plenty of configurable items to make the most ardent fiddler happy, but simple enough for the new user to feel comfortable with.

If you need to synchronize or backup your files, SyncBack is what you need.
