AcronymGenie is a comprehensive searchable database of over 17,000 acronyms, abbreviations & initialisms.
They are drawn from the world of Computers, Internet, Information Technology, Programming, Networking, Software Engineering, Hacking & Cracking, Embedded Systems, Electronics, Telecommunications, Animation, Graphics, Audio, Video, Multimedia, Virtual Reality, Real-Time Systems, Biotechnology, etc.
It allows you to search through the abbreviations anagrammatically, which is helpful when you have forgotten the exact sequence of the letters forming an acronym or abbreviation. AcronymGenie also minimizes to an icon in the desktray (next to the clock) so it can be on hand for consultation yet not in-your-face, and it can even automatically start with Windows. Included with the program is even an extensive library of smiley faces!
While the database is massive, it does have some strange omissions. While it includes .NET, .ORG, .MIL, etc domain names, it doesn't include the most common of all, .COM. An entry we found strange was WAS listed as "West Australian Standard". Maybe it should have been WAST (West Australian Standard Time)?
However, we should expect one or two omissions or glitches amongst 17,000 entries.
The anagram search is excellent and the whole program has a professional look and feel about it.
We are all sometimes confused with the array of acronyms and abbreviations thrown at us every day. AcronymGenie helps put us back in the driver's seat.
