Notrium is a Robinson Crusoe style survival game set in the future on an alien planet.
It features excellent graphics, lots of alien enemies, and more.
This is similar to an RPG but you must obtain food and shelter, protect yourself from alien attackers, acid rain and lots of other nasties, while trying to save yourself.
The author says: "It's easy to see the aliens during the day, but what will you do when the night comes? Will you stay near a fire to keep warm, or will you wander the jungles equipped with a flashlight desperately looking for items? Maybe you can some day create a stronghold in the jungle, and build a turret to fend off the alien incursion."
Notrium is similar to Crimsonland and Nethack, though lacks the depth of those two games.
We found Notrium to be excellent and, even though the download is not small, it is worth grabbing.
Notrium has been updated to version 1.2.
The author advises that changes in this version include: more endings; more weapons; more enemies; more items; you can now grow your own alien from egg to grownup to fight beside you; weight system for items (being overburdened will slow you down); tutorial; friendly creatures may now move & follow the player; enemies & non-stationary friends follow you when you leave a map; added teleports that can take you to other areas; flashlight now uses batteries; added a health meter; new weapon effects; puzzles have been replaced with a time bar; added a targeting beam that turns green when an enemy hits it; tons of new options for modders; and much more.
Notrium has been updated to version 1.3.
The author advises that changes in this version include: rewritten AI (pathfinding, line of sight, exploring & leader following); Fourth race (the mysterious Psionic with unique weapons and skills!); fortified enemy bases & buildings for you to conquer; the alien player race now evolves into a real killing machine; you can now ride a Hoverbike; new areas (the marine battleship, the bunker, the dried up marsh); new beginning (fly the escape pod to the planet); new journals (an exciting scifi story that's different for each race); tons of new options for modders (plus a map editor); and hundreds of minor tweaks & fixes including the much awaited minimap.
