Click-N-Type is an on-screen virtual keyboard designed for anyone with a disability that prevents that person from typing on a physical computer keyboard.
It features support for dialog boxes (browser address boxes, etc) which many other virtual keyboards don't, and has a fully customizable keyboard layout.
The main screen is kept as small as practical and, by default, stays on top at all times. However, you can resize the keyboard by dragging its edges to create as large a keyboard as you can use. This is very handy for people with sight problems or who have large monitors (over 17").
Click-N-Type also features "AutoClick" where you can hover the mouse pointer over a key and not have to actually press the mouse key. You can adjust the delay timer to prevent premature clicking.
The keyboard also has a built-in buffer so you can type text, edit it to make sure it is right, and then click onto a normal text window (or dialog box) to insert the buffer-text in to it.
While Click-N-Type will not help someone who cannot move a mouse or trackball, for many people who have limited movement this program will be a real blessing.
If you are such a person you will already be rushing to grab a copy...
Click-N-Type has been updated to version 2.01.
The author advises that changes in this version include the addition of "Spoken Keys", where a male or female voice "speaks" pressed keys for people with a visual impairment (additional 1.71MB or 1.73MB download).
There is more international keyboard support for countries which use the AltGr key (that is, pressing Alt & Ctrl keys together) by simply right-clicking on the Alt key and also with more international (non-English) characters. The international support is also enhanced by adding the extra key on many European keyboards to their language packs.
This version offers many other enhancements in areas and also includes some bug fixes (specially with Windows XP compatibility).
Click-N-Type has been updated to version 2.02.
The author advises that changes in this version include: Scan Mode (designed for anyone who lacks the ability to move the mouse pointer with any pointing device); a "Launch an Application at Startup" option; [X] Button minimizes the keyboard option; set colors applet; macro snapshots; multiple language configurations; and more.
If you cannot use a keyboard because of a disability, or you know someone who can't, grab this fabulous "virtual keyboard".
| Update: | September 10, 2003 |
Click-N-Type has been updated to version 2.03.
The author advises that the major change in this version is the inclusion of CNTAdmin & CNTClone, which are part of a separate installation. CNTAdmin gives an Administrator control over how CNT appears and what features users are allowed to use. CNTClone allows you to duplicate the current Click-N-Type and CNTAdmin configuration on other systems.
Other changes include: you now have the option of having a Space typed for you after the word has been completed, or continue typing and extending the word; the keyboard can now be translucent so you can see what's under our windows while you type; there are no longer any restrictions to printable characters being sent from the Buffer and/or Macros; allow the Minimum Word Prediction Threshold to be set as low as 1; while in Scan Mode, you may now enter or exit Captured Mouse mode; and removal of the requirement to uninstall an older version before installing a new one.
Click-N-Type has been updated to version 3.0.
The author advises that changes in this version include: low level hooks, consistency in scrolling; function keys menu removed & ClipBrd button degraded; Up/Down menu removed & Minimize degraded; now includes the full set of physical keys; includes the 102nd extra European key; new Macro key; Scan Mode enhancements; Macro Cues; and more AutoClick control.
Click-N-Type has been updated to version 3.01.
The author advises that changes in this version include: adjustable drop & hide options; learns commonly completed words for faster word prediction; more administrative controls; better coordination with any Windows color scheme; and supports extended desktops.
Click-N-Type has been updated to version 3.02.
The author advises that changes in this version include: the window caption of the current target, if one exists, is displayed as part of our title, showing where keystrokes are being sent; Rollup feature where the "Only Title Bar shows when not in use" option can make only the Title Bar visible when the keyboard is not in use; the keyboard now remembers it previous position if closed, or Windows is shut-down, while we're hiding out of sight; the maximum AutoHide Delay time has been extended, by request, from 10 seconds to 60 seconds; the problem of setting the Word Prediction Window Font has been fixed, and two possible, but never reported, timing and hiding related problems have been fixed.
