wag is a tool which creates an album of photos and graphics viewable using any Web browser.
It features: auto-creation of thumbnails; supports BMP, GIF, JPEG, EXIF, PNG & TIFF files; requires minimal configuration; and processes all the images in a folder.
This is one of the easiest tools we've seen to create an HTML page of your photos and graphics. These images can be viewed through any Web browser.
It creates thumbnails of the images and each image is hyperlinked to the original for viewing. You can even add your name and details to the program and it will add them to the page, creating a heading, a sub-heading, your name, and your e-mail address (hyperlinked). It also places a small copyright notice at the bottom of the page (ie "Copyright © 2002 John Smith").
So far so good.
Alas, the program seems to have some inherent problems. The thumbnail images it creates are all 120 pixels wide or 120 pixels deep which is great if you have a large image but terrible if you have a small image (it gets stretched to that size)! See Update below.
It also automatically converts all images into the JPG format which might be great for photos but is usually less than great for other types of images. We also had a problem with the program converting TIF images most it converted but some it didn't.
You might find that editing the HTML heading information is advisable so that the overall effect fits in with your other pages should you decide to post these images on the Net.
Note: this program requires that Microsoft's .NET Framework is installed on your computer.
wag has been updated to version 1.0.1.
The author advises that this version no longer stretches images that are smaller than preset image dimensions so both thumbnail images and the main image are rendered correctly. This was our major criticism of this program. See original review above.
If you are looking for a way of presenting images through a Web browser (on-line or off-line) then this is one of the best ways to do it.
wag has been updated to version 1.2.1.
The author advises that this program now creates a third HTML page called 'slideshow.html'. This page allows the album to be navigated, one page at a time, using on screen buttons.
wag has been updated to version 2.0.0.
The author advises that it now supports W3C core style sheets and three sizes of album image.
