Review:

NotesPad is a sensational Windows NotePad replacement with spell check (US English included but 9 others available).

It offers unlimited filesize, can edit up to 16 files at once, has a configurable Favorites file list & system editor, multiple undo/redo, powerful search, converts between DOS, Unix and Mac formats, etc.

This ASCII text editor is amazing! It offers so many options it's like getting behind the steering wheel of a foreign car – it does so much you almost don't know where to start.

The program doesn't make it as simple as it could have been to associate it with the TXT extension (and others) if you didn't want to replace the original Windows NotePad with a renamed NotesPad (cannot be done in Windows Me anyway). We also noted that the dictionary supplied with the program was named US_English.dct and the program looks for a dictionary called English.dct...

One thing we loved about NotesPad was that if you click on another program while it was open it automatically minimizes to an icon in the desktray, next to the clock. If you wanted the program open all you had to do was to click on that icon once. Neat. Unfortunately, it uses over 4% of system resources which means that you might not want to keep it permanently open on your desktop.

Overall, we considered NotesPad to be the best ASCII text editor/NotePad replacement we have yet seen and have been happy to make it our default text editor.

Get it!
